Some History About Auburn, WA.

Auburn is a city in King County, Washington, with a population of over 87,000 people. The area now known as Auburn was first inhabited by the Skopamish, Smalhuse, and Stkamish Native American tribes. In the mid-19th century, white settlers began to arrive in the area and establish farms.

In 1891, the Northern Pacific Railway chose the area for a railroad station, and the town was incorporated in 1891, taking its name from the wildflowers that grew in the area. The town grew quickly, with the establishment of sawmills, shingle mills, and hop farms.

In the early 20th century, Auburn became known as the “Hop Capital of the World,” producing more hops than any other place in the world. However, the industry declined during the Prohibition era, and the Great Depression dealt a severe blow to the local economy.

During World War II, the Boeing Company established an aircraft assembly plant in nearby Renton, and many workers moved to Auburn to take advantage of the employment opportunities. The city continued to grow in the post-war era, with the construction of new housing developments and the establishment of retail businesses.

Today, Auburn is a diverse community with a strong economy based on healthcare, retail, and technology. The city is also home to Green River College and several parks and recreation facilities, including the White River Amphitheater and the Muckleshoot Casino.
